Growing up by the seaside, seafood was abundant, and the mom often made a comforting mussel stew. Although mussels are available all year around, they are testier in colder months between late October through February, before they spawn. They are heavier, more flavorful, and rich in nutrients. Mussel porridge is good for rejuvenation, fatigue relief, anemia relief, especially helps women’s back pain and postpartum recovery, and I can go on, but I won’t bore you. Ingredients

  • mussels – 8 ea
  • onion – ⅓ ea
  • broccoli – 1.5 oz
  • carrot – 1.5 oz
  • anchovy broth – 1.5 cups
  • sesame oil – 1 tbs
  • Olive oil – 1tbs
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Prep & Cooking:

  • Prep:
    • Place frozen mussels in room temperature water. Remove the strands of protein fibers and cut mussels into small bite size
    • Dice carrot into ¼” cubes
    • Dice broccoli into ¼” cubes
  • Cooking:
    1. Add olive oil in heated pan
    2. Add onion and carrot in medium heat
    3. Add pinch of salt
    4. Add mussels when onion are translucent
    5. When rice softened, add broccoli in medium low heat and stir
    6. add roasted sesame oil
    7. Sprinkle salt and black pepper to taste
    8. Sprinkle roasted sesame seeds
